merely supportable biblically and theologically, but also scientifically and philosophically.6 Nonetheless, many thinkers still labor under the influence of Friedrich Schleiermacher, the fountainhead of much of modern theology. He contributed to the eclipse of the doctrine of creation by collapsing the ideas of creation and conservation.7 The doctrine of creation was de-temporalized by referring to creation as the “sustaining relation of God to the world, not to his origination of its existence.”8
